Is the shelf life really 25 years?

Studies have shown that freeze-dried and dehydrated food can last for 25 years or longer if stored under the ideal and proper conditions.  With very rigid standards for quality manufacturing, packaging, and storage, we make sure that your food is packaged to last.  After going through a process to remove excess water and oxygen, our food is sealed in nitrogen-flushed Mylar pouches to ensure a long shelf life.  One final layer of protection is added by storing the Mylar pouches in stackable plastic buckets that range from 1.5 to 8 gallons.

Do you offer vegetarian meals?

Every meal sold on is vegetarian friendly. Instead of using freeze-dried meats, we have chosen to use soy proteins. Real meat contains fatty oils and amino acids that break over time, don’t hold their nutritional value, and won’t last for 25 years.  Soy proteins provide more health benefits and will last much longer, without having to sacrifice taste. In fact, most people can’t even tell the difference.

Is there any MSG in your products?

Monosodium Glutamate, or MSG, is not found in any of our products.  

How much food should we store for our family?

Choosing how much food your family needs is a personal choice that only you can answer.  In time of emergency, you will feel that no amount is enough. While there is no definitive answer to this question, the most important thing is to have something.  If your emergency food supply is enough for 2 weeks or 2 years, any amount is better than having nothing.  We encourage you to use our food calculator and start where you can.  Food storage doesn’t need to be done all at once, it is something that you can, and should, continually add to.

Where should I store my food storage?

The best place to store the food is in a cool dry place, ideally with temperatures in the 50's. We highly recommend basements, storage rooms, cold storage, pantries, and even closets are good. We do not recommend garages, storage units, or other places where the temperature might change throughout the year or where your food may consistently be in temperatures above 75 degrees.  

How do I cook the food?

Legacy Premium is simple to cook. Add the recommended boiling water, stir, and let sit to thicken. Depending on how runny or thick you want your meals, try adding less water and letting the food sit for ten minutes to thicken up the sauce before serving. 

How much water will I need?

Each package will have suggested cooking instructions, but on average, plan for 1 cup per serving.  For those that prefer thicker sauces, use less than the recommend amount.

How is the food preserved?

Food storage ingredients are dehydrated and freeze dried. The preservation method for each ingredient is selected based upon taste and quality.

Do you ship outside of the United States?

We do ship internationally, but we cannot ship it for free.  Call us for a bid at 1-800-942-0721.

How much is shipping?

All orders shipping within the contiguous United States now qualify for free shipping. 

Time for shipping?

Orders typically leave the warehouse within 48 hours after an order is made. Time to ship is typically 5 to 7 business days. Tracking numbers will be issued by email on all applicable orders.

Do you ship to Hawaii and Alaska?

Yes, but additional charges will apply for shipping.  For any customers wishing to purchase in these states, please call customer service at 1-800-580-9450 to discuss shipping prices and options.

How is the product delivered?

We use the USPS for small packages and FedEx Ground for larger orders.  Orders are shipped in sturdy boxes and packaging to ensure a safe and damage free delivery.
